Papua New Guinea is widely recognised as one of the most linguistically diverse nations in the world. Featuring an estimated 851 languages and a population of just 7.6 million, its diversity per capita far surpasses countries like India and protects traditions that date back centuries.

So how did PNG come to be so linguistically multi-faceted, and why has this talent endured?
